Snake-bitten Asian rescued in RAK
RAS AL KHAIMAH — The ambulance and rescue team of the Air Wing of the Ras Al Khaimah Police has rescued an Asian resident bitten by a snake on top of a mountain in the emirate.
According to Wing Commander Saeed Rashid Al Yamahi, head of the Air Wing Section, the man was rescued around 5pm on Wednesday.
After receiving information about the incident, the team managed to track down the victim in his thirties and provided him with first aid. He was then airlifted to the hospital.
The police urged all trekkers, tourists and workers to be more cautious in these areas and take all precautionary measures for their safety.
What makes our job more difficult, when looking for a missing person, is the insufficient or unclear information and the rough, rocky, and sloppy mountainous areas, he explained.
Major Tariq Al Sharhan, head of the ambulance and rescue section at the RAK police, said trekkers and climbers need to learn the basics of rock climbing on an indoor wall first.
“Climbers need to inform the authorities about their activities, whereabouts and number of climbers, and consult climbing websites to get up-to-date information on local climbing sites.” Trekkers are also advised to bring a means of communication, such as a mobile or satellite phone, he said. “A whistle could also be useful to attract attention, and take food items on their hike.”
