Prepare kids to face real world: Hudson
dubai — Educators need to start teaching students about the “real world” and go beyond what textbooks teach, according to American actress and singer Jennifer Hudson.
Hudson, one of the celebrity speakers at this year’s Global Education and Skills Forum, spoke mainly on how education can be improved to prepare students for the future.
Hudson said: “Looking after children is extremely important because the children are the future. If we can teach them what goes outside of the books and what’s going in the world, it could make them more productive in society.”
She said she is unsure what 2030 will bring for the future generations because technology has become so advanced, it’s almost “unpredictable”. However, she believes preparing them for “the real world” is imperative nonetheless.
“I remember my mother saying the year 2000 was going to be ‘this and that’. And now it’s 2018. I don’t think we can imagine what 2030 is going to be,” she said, adding that teachers should care about their students, as well as preparing them for the future.
“My music teacher made such a big impact on me and showing that he cared. In Chicago, negativity is common. So you have to be positive and be passionate. I’m driven by passion. If you’re driven by passion then I’m interested in what you’re doing.”
Hudson said her biggest inspiration in her life has mainly been the women in her family, especially her mother. However, in a tragic incident, her mother, brother and nephew were murdered by her brotherin-law in 2018.
