dubai — The Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA), as part of a line-up of activities planned to mark the ‘Year of Zayed’, has contributed Dh500,000 to the Moscow International Quran competition (MIQC).

As per the agreement inked at the Dihqa headquarters in Al Mamzar area, the DIHQA is to cover all the expenses of MIQC’s 19th edition.

“We will contribute Dh500,000 to sponsor MIQC activities,” said Ibrahim Mohamed Bu Melha, adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and

The logos of the Year of Zayed and Dihqa are to be placed on all the competition’s advertisements, promos, correspondence and publications.” Ibrahim Mohamed Bu Melha, head, organising committee, DIHQA

head of the DIHQA Organising Committee. “MIQC spares no effort to spread and promote the tolerant teachings of Islam, encourage Quran memorisation and take care of Quran memorisers,” Bu Melha said. “The competition, one of the biggest in Europe, annually sees large numbers of Quran memorisers from all over the world.

The MIQC is naming the 19th session of the global competition the ‘Zayed Al Khair’ edition, he added. “The logos of the Year of Zayed and the DIHQA are to be placed on all the competition’s advertisements, promos, correspondence and publications.”

Dr Rushan Abbasov, senior deputy chairman of the Russian Council of Muftis, said the MIQC — held in October every year — is supported by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Government of Moscow.

An exhibition on the Holy Quran manuscripts, books and Islamic attire is always held on the sidelines of the competition, he stated.

Dr Abbasov then talked about the efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in serving the Holy Quran. “He has founded and supported hundreds of Quran memorisation centres worldwide, which have become ‘minarets’ of faith.”

The same steps have been followed by the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the rest of the UAE leadership, he said.
