7 cars damaged as crane collapses in Abu Dhabi
abu dhabi — A crane collapsed at an under-construction building in Abu Dhabi on Monday, damaging several cars.
The incident occurred in the Tourist Club area of the Capital on Monday afternoon.
The Abu Dhabi Police said on Tuesday that the civil defence and rescue teams and police patrols rushed to the site after the central operations room received a report, notifying them about a crane that had fallen from a building under construction. No person was injured in the incident.
Brigadier-General Mohammed Mayouf Al Ketbi, director-general of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Department, said seven cars parked in nearby area were damaged in the incident. The cars were left parked in the street parking spaces near the newly constructed building. The cause for the accident has not been revealed yet.
Al Ketbi urged owners of construction companies and contractors to provide all the necessary safety requirements at the work sites and to ensure that cranes and other machines used in construction are maintained periodically.
Hassan Akram, an Indian resident who witnessed the incident, said he was shocked when he heard the loud sound of the crane collapsing.
“I was standing at the nearby building when I heard a loud sound of something collapsing. At first I thought it was a building that had fallen down,” he told Khaleej Times.
“But when I went closer, I realised it was a crane. The building workers and residents were shocked by the incident but luckily, no one was injured in the incident.”
