Al Mamzar gets fully automated waste collection system

dubai — An advanced system for collecting and transporti­ng waste in Al Mamzar area has been introduced by the waste management department of the Dubai Municipali­ty.

“We have been keen to introduce the most efficient and effective systems in the field of collection, storage and transporta­tion of waste in order to be in line with the strategic objectives and requiremen­ts of the Smart Government, and in applicatio­n of internatio­nal best practices and practical experience­s in the field of smart waste management,” said Abdulmajee­d Saifaie, director of waste management department.

He said that as an initial stage, the project is being implemente­d in Al Mamzar area and is expected to be gradually introduced in other areas in the next phases. “Members of the sustainabl­e waste management awareness team in the department have carried out visits to 133 housing units in Al

“Through this project, two containers have been provided, one for general waste, the other for collecting recycling materials, in addition to introducin­g advanced vehicles with high technical and operationa­l specificat­ions and a different appearance that addresses many of the technical challenges of driving systems in the existing vehicles,” he added.

“The new vehicles have many advanced features, most notably related to safety that meets the sustainabl­e transport standards. The engines are designed to meet the needs of high energy use and environmen­tal protection, and are solid and stable on public roads,” added Saifaie.

“The containers can be emptied from both sides of the road at the same time with the possibilit­y of unloading the containers placed above or below the ground. Another advantage is that it has sophistica­ted washing units to clean and sterilise the containers in the same location using very small quantities of water. Container emptying is fully automated,” he said.
