dubai — The Dubai Government Excellence Programme (DGEP) has been a driver for 21 years to develop the services, enhance policies and build competence of the Government of Dubai, said His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed was speaking at a ceremony to honour the winners of the 21st edition of the Dubai Government Excellence Programme, at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Monday. He said that the DGEP has become a leading model of its kind, which has been passed on to a number of countries.

Since its launch, the DGEP has created a legacy coupled with the name of Dubai. It has turned into a world mark, which indicates excellence, achievement, competence and development, Sheikh Mohammed added.

“The programme has contributed to disseminating the culture of excellence across the GCC and the Arab region, and made Dubai a place which is associated with quality of services,” he pointed out.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council; Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; and Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and CEO of the Emirate Airlines and Group; was also present at the ceremony.

Sheikh Mohammed thanked all those who has contributed over the programme’s past 21 years to turn it into a world parameter.

“I thank all the staff of the Dubai government departments for their efforts. And my appreciations to those who excelled are double. We need new ideas to achieve more in the quality of services for the coming period.”

Sheikh Mohammed said that everybody should take the winners as role models. The winners still have more to do, as excellence and achievement are limitless, he said, adding that excellence is like a road that never has an end. It is important that the winners must share their experience with others, and should spread the culture of excellence amid their colleagues.

“Although excellence is an individual success, its real value is stemmed from the mobilisation of such individual efforts to realise excellence at a broader scope,” he said.

The DGEP has contributed to making Dubai the first in the region and the world in terms of standard of government services rendered to the public.

Excellence is a culture of thinking and work in the UAE, he said, adding: “The progress we achieved in various fields is a fruit of persistence and hard work in order to fulfill the aspirations and expectations of the people of the UAE.”
