dubai — A man on a visit visa has been charged in a Dubai court after he assaulted an onduty police officer.

The Court of First instance heard the 44-year-old Egyptian man pushed the policeman, belittled and insulted him in front of others telling him that he did not deserve to wear the uniform. He has been charged at the court with assaulting an on-duty police officer and verbally abusing him.

The case dates back to December 3, 2017, and was reported to Al Muraqqabat police station. “I was with a colleague on patrol duty in Al Mamzar area when we were informed about an assault incident around 5pm. The accused was fighting with another man (Emirati) and both blamed each other. The other man’s neck looked scratched. We heard the other man dropped the accused’s daughter home,” the policeman who was assaulted, said.

“We tried to calm them down. I called the girl’s Emirati mother and advised her not to let her daughter accompany the other man. We also told the accused to stop what he was doing to avoid further problems, but he got angry and began screaming.”

The officer said that when he ordered the defendant to get inside the police car, he pushed his hand aggressively. When he told him to stop smoking, the accused blew the smoke in the officer’s face.

Inside the police car, the defendant told the cop he was a lawyer and that he would file a complaint. He also threatened he would get the officer suspended. An Egyptian salesman, 25, said he was with the other man when the defendant assaulted him. “My friend runs a swimming academy and on the day of the incident, he gave the swimming trainees rides to their homes - among them was the defendant’s 10-year-old daughter.”The next hearing is to be held on April 17.
