- Amira Agarib

sharjah — An Asian man has been charged by the Sharjah Criminal Court with possessing and promoting large quantities of drugs, including heroin.

The anti-narcotics department of the Dubai Police received a tipoff that a man possessed a large quantity of drugs. Three police officials, who testified at the court, said the department raided the house of the accused and nabbed him from Sajaa area in Sharjah. The police found five packets containing heroin and crystal drugs from his pockets.

After being grilled by the police, the accused spilled the beans. The police seized a huge amount of drugs from his cupboard. The accused then led the cops to some other locations where he had hidden and buried crystal and heroin. He revealed that the kingpin of the smuggling racket was based in Pakistan, who had given him the drugs to be promoted.

During the court hearing, the suspect said that the large quantity of drugs he possessed were for his personal use.

The Dubai Police officials said that they got permission from the Dubai Public Prosecution to raid the house of the accused and after finding drugs in his possession called the Sharjah Police officials, who came there and arrested the Pakistani man.

The lawyer of the accused, however, said that the police officials should have got approval from the Sharjah Public Prosecution before arresting the suspect. He said that the drug case should be heard by the federal court in Abu Dubai.

The case was adjourned to a later date.
