An Indian town comes together in Dubai
dubai — Business meets come and go but those are meant to build only contacts and do networking, however a different kind of business meet was held for Indian expats from the state of Karnataka, particularly from a coastal town called Kundapura.
Businessmen and executives dressed not in business suits but in traditional Kannada attire of mundu and kurta greeted each other and all guests at the annual cultural event titled the Kundapura Kannada Sneh Milan (A friendly get-together of Kundapura people) held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Deira on Friday.
The meet was more of a cultural event that saw performances of traditional dances, Kannada melodies as well as some top achievers of Kundapura being honoured for their social work back in India as well as here in the UAE.
“Although we had planned a 400-people get-together but we already passed the 600 target till lunch time and were joined by more Muslim brothers after the afternoon prayers. This shows

that we have lot of Kundapura people here in the UAE and what is needed is a call to gather, unite and meet them,” said the sponsor and president of Kundapura Kannada society and chairman of Fortune Group of Hotels, Praveen Shetty.
“The idea of the programme is to meet people of our area, who are known by their unique dialect which is the oldest form of Kannada language. Lot of people of our town maybe living here in the UAE for years without knowing that they have more people from their town living nearby. So today is the day we unite, meet and get to know each other and maybe in future, if anyone requires any help personally or even business collaboration, then we can help all our community members,” said businessman Nithyanand Beskoor.
