dubai — the dubai municipality has completed the construction of the new furniture market for used furniture and electrical appliances, it was announced on tuesday.

the 288,000 sqft market in nad al sheba-3 area, aims to have the collection of furniture, used electrical appliances and household appliances in one location rather than being randomly spread and unorganised, making it difficult for the public and re-export companies.

the dh77-million project has applied 100 per cent green building standards in line with the vision of his highness sheikh mohammed bin rashid al maktoum, vice-president and prime minister of the uae and ruler of dubai, to preserve the country’s resources, build a green economy and establish an environmentally sustainable city. marwan abdullah al mohammed, director of the general projects department at the municipality, said the furniture market, spread on an area of about 17 hectares, is a comprehensive market for the sale of furniture and household appliances.

he said the market will bring together all activities connected with furniture trade at one place, which will lead to an excellent competitive market compared to what exists locally, in the gulf region and even globally through the comprehensive framework and diversity of existing services in the market.

al mohammed added that the project consists of 120 shops distributed in six blocks, each containing 20 shops in addition to public services such as restaurants and toilets, 714 parking spaces for visitors and 114 parking for trucks.

he said that the project also includes other facilities such as roads and shaded areas for external display of furniture during local and international festivals with the presence of green spaces and public services. he added that the project is being handed over to the beneficiary department in dubai municipality for the purpose of operation.
