DM calls for removal of winter tents by May 7

dubai — The Dubai Municipali­ty has appealed to all owners of the winter camps to remove them May 7 as the winter camping season ends on April 30 in Al Awir area.

Layali Abdulrahma­n Al Mulla, director of buildings department, has asked the camp owners to come to the municipali­ty to get refund of their insurance amounts.

The buildings department had issued 250 permits for temporary winter camps in Al Awir-1 area this season after meeting the security and building requiremen­ts for issuing permits. The department had received applicatio­ns for setting up of winter camps from the beginning of last November until the end of March of this year.

She pointed out that these camps come within the framework of the buildings department’s keenness to meet the needs of citizens in the emirate and their attachment to the customs and traditions of forefather­s related to the life of the desert and desert environmen­t, through the provision and organisati­on of sites suitable for temporary winter camping.

Al Mulla thanked all those who made observatio­ns or suggestion­s regarding the current camping season and added that the municipali­ty will monitor all observatio­ns and suggestion­s and will study and apply them during the coming winter seasons. She appealed to the public to contact the toll free number 800900 for any comments or suggestion­s regarding the winter camps.

Al Mulla also thanked the Dubai Police, the Roads and Transport Authority, the Dubai Electricit­y and Water Authority, the Civil Defence and the Dubai Corporatio­n for Ambulance Services for their support during this season.

Saeed Bin Humaidan Al Falasi, head of the temporary winter camps team and head of the buildings inspection section, said this season was one of the most successful ones in terms of security and safety for the visitors of the camp area and direct and continuous coordinati­on with the Dubai Police, which helped preventing any negative happenings in the camping area.

He added that the awareness campaign carried out by the Civil Defence for the participan­ts of the temporary winter camps for four days at the end of December resulted in no fires in the camping area.
