abu dhabi — The Abu Dhabi police have set a Guinness World Record by holding the most number of people attending a lecture on first aid.

The lecture held on Wednesday at the national theatre in Abu Dhabi was attended by over 2,500 people.

The Guinness certificate was received by Major-General Ali Khalfan Al Dhahiri, director of central operations at the Abu Dhabi Police, from Samer Khalouf, Guinness World Records representative.

The lecture tackled proper ways and steps to handle an emergency case, by checking the injured person and contacting the command and control centre of the Abu Dhabi Police. It also referred to giving first aid to an injured person.

The lecture also defined the duties and tasks of paramedics. A practical emergency treatment session was also conducted.

The session broke the previous Guinness record of a lecture held in the UK, which was attended by a total of 1,795 people.

“We meet today to celebrate our achievement in setting an unprecedented record as the Public Safety and Emergency Department successfully managed to organise the largest lecture ever on first aid, which has been attended by a large number of people,” said Major-Gen Al Dhahiri.

This achievement, he said, has been realised due to the good effort exerted by the department and the partners from different sectors, directorates and departments in order to reach the wished objective.

Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim Al Amri, director of the Public Safety and Emergency Department, said the achievement is a valuable addition to its effort in raising awareness among the public on how to handle any emergency case that require an instant response until the ambulance teams arrive.
