NAB looks into graft charges against MPAs, officers in Balochista­n

quetta — The National Accountabi­lity Bureau (NAB), Balochista­n, has started legal proceeding­s against provincial lawmakers and government officers over corruption charges.

“Upon complaints received during the first quarter of year 2018 regarding corruption and corrupt practices, NAB started working on verificati­on of complaints and inquiry against seven members of Balochista­n Assembly including Obaidullah Babat, Rehmat Saleh Baloch, Malik Kakar, Isamel Gujjar, Ineeta Irfan, Jan Mohammed Jamali and Ameer Zaman,” a NAB Press release issued here.

“NAB Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal has also given a goahead to probe two ex-Lieutenant Generals Afzal Janjua, Obaidullah Khatak and two former Brigadiers Iftikhar Mehdi and Asad Shehzada in two different cases of corruption,” it added.

“During the same span of time, NAB, among others, filed reference against former additional chief secretary Balochista­n Ali Zaheer Hazara, exchairman Balochista­n Developmen­t Authority, former managing director water and sanitation authority Hamid Lateef Rana and arrested sitting Member of Balochista­n Assembly and former food minister Mir Izhar Khoso and Secretary Food Noor Ahmed Pirkani over serious allegation­s of corruption,” the Press release said

The premier anti-graft watchdog in first quarter of the current year handed over cheque of Rs150 million recovered from corrupt elements to Balochista­n government.

Meanwhile, the efforts of NAB also bore fruit and properties of over Rs1 billion accumulate­d by the accused in mega corrupion case also were transferre­d to Balochista­n government from Sindh besides recovery of Rs470 million. — APP
