Cashier gets 6-month jail for molesting 9-year-old girl

dubai — A cashier, who molested a nine-year-old girl at the supermarket where he worked, has been sentenced by the Dubai Court of First Instance to six months in jail to be followed by deportation.

The 39-year-old Indian cashier molested the Sudanese girl after he spotted her alone near the shelves. He grabbed her and inappropriately touched her. He denied a molestation charge during his court appearance.

The incident was reported to Al Barsha police on February 13, this year.

“Around 7.45am, my daughter came back from the supermarket with her friend. She did not look alright to me but rather scared and upset. She said that the supermarket employee did something bad to her,” the girl’s 46-year-old mother said.

The mother recounted to the prosecutor what she heard from her daughter about the cashier’s slipping his hand in her shirt and groping her. “He would not let go of her even when she yelled at him. Her friend said that she saw him hugging my girl from behind.”

The housewife took both girls back to the grocery shop and both pointed at the defendant.

The accused was taken into custody by the police shortly later.

The girl told the investigator that the employee would often joke playfully with her but on the incident day he was not joking.
