sharjah — The UAE, represented by the Sharjah Police, is coordinating with the Interpol to arrest a 40-year-old Indian man who allegedly murdered his wife and buried her in his house in the Mysaloon area in Sharjah.

The suspect, identified as Ismail, fled the country after the crime and is residing in India now, according to police sources.

Following a complaint from neighbours about the bad odour emanating from an empty villa with a for-rent board, the police inspected the site. They broke into the house and with the help of sniffer dogs, found the body of a woman buried inside the house. The police shifted the decomposed body to the forensic laboratory to determine the time and cause of the death. Investigation also revealed that the woman was murdered by her husband due to marital disputes. The suspect travelled to India after sending his second wife and two children ahead of him.

Major-General Saif Al Zeri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, told Khaleej Times that all the evidence, fingerprints and witnesses confirmed that the woman was killed by her husband.

“The police have started communication with the Interpol and will provide them with the case file to be able to arrest and extradite him. There is a great cooperation between the Sharjah Police and Indian police authorities in such cases,” he said. The police are still waiting for the forensic report to determine how and when the murder took place. A relative of the victim told Khaleej Times that Ismail Mohammed has three daughters in the marriage with the murdered wife. Two of them were in India while Tahseen Ismail, the eldest daughter, lived in Sharjah. She used to go to Salman Al Farrisy Quran centre.

Ismail lived with his wife (the victim) for 16 years, but later, he sent her back to India to get married to another woman without her knowledge. The victim returned to Sharjah two months ago on a visit visa to attend her daughter’s graduation from the Quran centre and then discovered that her husband got married to another woman. This caused conflicts between them and he wanted the victim to go back to India but she refused.

“His daughter Tahseen was my daughter’s best friend. She used to tell my daughter that her father was torturing her mother every day. She also told my daughter that her father was planning to take all of them back to India because he was finding it difficult to meet the expenses as his business was down. He sent her first and told her that he will follow her later.

“One day, Tahseen contacted my daughter from India and told her that she would continue her education there. She said she tried to call her mother, but she was not answering the phone. When she contacted her father, he told her that her mother already ran away from the house as she didn’t want to go back to India. She said he reached India without the mother, but with the new wife and her two small children.

“Tahseen was planning to come along with her uncle to look for her mother. Then the uncle reached here and lodged a complaint with Al Garb police about his sister,” he said.

A shopkeeper at a grocery store near the house said that the man used to buy things from him, but he never saw the man’s wife. “He disappeared a month ago. We thought he shifted from the area and gave the house for rent.”
