Phoenix Medicines pile on record 760 runs

-

sharjah — A week ago in the 44th Bukhatir Premier League a few records tumbled but that did not last long as Phoenix Medicine smashed a few of them during their massive 575-run victory over Young Talent Cricket Academy at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Opting to bat first, as many as four centuries were scored that ensured Phoenix Medicines amassed a massive 760 for nine in 50 overs, a record that eclipsed the previous best total of 706 runs by Mir in the fourth match of this season’s league. The four centuries also was a new domestic records in an innings while the 575-run victory was the second biggest margin of victory in Bukhatir League.

It was not a smooth start for Phoenix Medicine losing a wicket early but Ayoub Inayat scored 41 off only 14 deliveries consisting of two sixes and five boundaries.

That was the start of a massive run pile up that refused to stop till the last over. First it was Umair Ali Khan who smashed a mind blowing 21 sixes and just a lone boundary to amass a huge 140 from just 40 deliveries followed Muhammad Ikram Jura who faced only 55 balls to score 102 including a dozen boundaries and five sixes.

Hafiz Kaleem carried on the momentum again dealing with maximums on most occasions as he hit 20 sixes and nine boundaries to fire an unbelievable 172 from only 52 deliveries. Rohan Mustafa was comparatively slower taking 75 balls to score 118 peppered with seven fours and eight sixes.

Fahad Ansari (43, 15b, 3x4, 4x6), Waseem Bari (47, 22b, 9x4) and Amir Hayat (64, 24b, 1x4, 8x6) all provided late fireworks as Phoenix Medicines achieved the record total. For YTCA bowlers it turned out to be a nightmare but the only solace was that Aniruth Jagdish, Vinayak Vijay and Cherian George all claimed two wickets each.

Chasing an impossible target, YTCA managed to play all the 50 overs as they achieved 185 for six. Muhammad Hamdan Tahir remained unbeaten on 37 while Tanish Suri was 36 not out.
