Smooth recovery for babies
Tiny tots are particularly susceptible and can have up to eight respiratory infections per year, which mainly affect upper airways
Upper and Lower Airway disease are both manifestations of a single inflammatory process within the respiratory tract (1). As a result, any disease that affects one airway is likely to affect the other airway. This is why Upper Respiratory Infections (URI) can increase the risk of developing Lower Respiratory Infections (LRI), and also why 80 per cent of asthma patients have allergic rhinitis. (2-5).
Babies are particularly susceptible and can have up to eight respiratory infections per year, which mainly affect upper airways. The most frequent symptom of viral URI on babies is blocked or runny nose. When a baby’s nose is blocked, it not only increases the risk of developing LRI, but also causes difficulties with breathing, eating and sleeping (6).
Aspiration with nasal irrigation has proven to alleviate symptoms of URI and reduce risk of other respiratory infections, and is an effective method for the prevention and control of nasal congestion in babies (6).
Omron has just launched the DuoBaby Nebulizer, which is a unique 2-in-1 compressor nebuliser with integrated nasal aspirator that can help treat the most common respiratory conditions of babies. It helps to efficiently deliver medication to the upper and lower airways, with the aspirator gently cleaning baby’s nose and thereby reduces congestion, allowing the baby to breath freely.
The nasal aspirator can be used to remove mucus from the nose of the baby (due to the nasal aspirator being connected to Omron’s DuoBaby Nebulizer compressor and achieving suction by leveraging venture effect), which is then collected into the collection chamber, which is simple to use, easy to clean and hygienic, with no need for disposable filters.
The Omron DuoBaby Nebulizer also comes with two exchangeable inhalation tops for the nebuliser kit, which can be used not only to treat lower airways conditions such as asthma, bronchitis and bronchiolitis, but also upper airways conditions such as blocked nose, cold and allergies.
