Guard on trial for molesting 9-year-old

- Marie Nammour

dubai — A security guard has gone on trial at the Court of First Instance on the charge of molesting a nine-year-old girl.

The 31-year-old Pakistani man is accused of groping the Emirati girl while she was away from her parents at their residential complex. He denied the charge at court claiming it was not intentional.

The incident was registered on March 7, this year, at Jebel Ali police station. “I got a call from my daughter at 5pm. I went straight away to see her,” the girl’s father said. “She told me that as she was walking out of a supermarket with her friend, the accused passed by her and inappropriately touched her. She asked him why he touched her and he said it was by mistake.”

The girl then recounted to her father how she told an Arab woman there about the guard. “As that woman talked and yelled at him, the accused fled the scene. I called the police,” the father told the prosecutor.

A policeman said the incident was reported at 5:30pm at the Dubai Investment Park.

“I went there and talked to the girl and her father. The following day, we checked the surveillance cameras footage with the victim. She pointed at the defendant as the one who touched her in a bad way.”

The police nabbed the defendant shortly later. He admitted to the charge during investigation. A court ruling will be released on May 20.
