Rajendran, Malhan claim India Club badminton titles

dubai — Vasantha Kumar Rajendran beat Omar Sherif M. 21-12, 21-15 to claim the boys under-19 final at the 41st India Club UAE Open Badminton Tournament on Friday night.

In the boys under-9 singles final, Riyan Malhan trounced Nithin Prakash Ramasamy 21-14, 21-6 to claim the title.

Rishab Kalidasan defeated Noel Cherian 21-8, 21-11 to bag the title boys under-11 title after Noel Cherian Jacob had beaten Dhanwanth Rahavan 21-13, 21-14 to move into the final.

In the title clash of boys under-11, Dev Vishnu scored a 21-17, 21-15 victory against Hiran Rasi to emerge victor. Earlier in the semifinals, Dev beat Dhiren Iyyappan 21-6, 21-7 while Hiran overcame Bharath Latheesh’s stiff challenge before scoring a 21-17, 11-21, 21-19 win.

In the girls under-13 singles final saw Tanika Sequira putting a brave fight to defeat Rinitha Rajith 21-16, 15-21, 21-13 and win the title.

Shourya Joshi downed Nabhan Najeeb 21-11, 21-17 to claim the boys under-15 singles title.

On Thursday, Rishab Kalidasan defeated Riyan Malhan 21-8, 21-6 to enter the final of boys under-11 singles. Earlier in the quarterfin­als, Noel Cherian Jacob beat Vasudev Sujith 21-11, 21-16 to enter the last four.

In the boys under-13 singles, Dev Vishnu downed Mahammed Fardeen 21-7, 21-7 while Hiraan Rassi ousted Joel Jino 21-9, 21-15 in the pre-quarterfin­als.

In the four quarter-finals played in the boy’s under-13 singles, Bharath Lateesh beat Dev Iyyappan 22-20, 19-21, 21-13; Dhiren Iyyappan overcame Ajinkya Gokhale 21-12, 21-15; Dev Vishnu trounced Joel James 21-7, 2113 and Hiraan Rasi edged past Shaikh Shah 21-16, 21-19.

In the boys under-15 singles semifinal, Shourya Joshi edged out John Kenji Perez 21-6, 21-15 to book a place in the final.

In the quarterfin­als of girls under-15 doubles, Sanika Gurav and Tanika Sequeira beat Anushka Vivek Kelshiker and Ishanvi Lakhani 2113, 21-10 while Ganga Pradeep Viswanatha­n and Gauri Pradeep Viswanatha­n trounced Trisha Joshi and Taabia Omar Khan 21-17, 21-7. Sarika Gurav and Tanika Sequeira downed Ganga Pradeep and Gouri Pradeep 21-12, 21-13 and Arunima Biju and Thaanseeha Charivupur Biju edged past Nidhi Desai amd Aleena Qanthun19-21, 21-17, 21-14 to set up a final clash in the girls under-15 doubles.
