Humanitarian campaign reaches millions
ZANZIBAR — The Sheikha Fatima Global Humanitarian Campaign for Treating Women and Children has begun in Zanzibar under the slogan ‘We are all our Mother Fatima.
Conducted with the supervision of Emirati and Zanzibarian doctors, it provides the best diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive services for women and children. The launch of the initiative, in line with the Year of Zayed 2018, is part of the Fatima bint Mubarak Volunteering Programme and is a joint initiative between the Zayed Giving Initiative, the General Women’s Union (GWU) in partnership with the Dar Al Ber Society, Sharjah Charity House, the Saudi-German Hospitals Group, Zayed Humanitarian Work Academy and Emirates Programme for Community and Specialised Volunteering.
The campaign was launched to complete the mission of the Millennial Giving Campaign which, over the past 18 years, has reached its humanitarian mission to millions of people and treated more than 12 million patients in different countries. It is also in line with the humanitarian spirit of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to alleviate the suffering of the underprivileged.
Noura Al Suwaidi, directorgeneral of the GWU, said that Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the GWU, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Child-hood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, attaches special attention to humanitarian work and is keen to provide the best services to different segments of society, especially women and children, by attracting, qualifying and empowering women in voluntary and humanitarian fields.
Dr Adel Al Shameri, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative and President of UAE Doctors, said that the campaign treated more than 3,000 women and children in Zanzibar villages. — Wam
