The speed limit is 100km per hour on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem road. However, the radar flash has been set at 121km per hour, considering the 20km per hour speed buffer over speed limits.” Col Ahmed Al Sam Al Naqbi, director, traffic and patrols, RAK Police

RAS AL KHAIMAH — The traffic and patrols department of the Ras Al Khaimah Police have denied any changes to the speed limit on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem road.

“The speed limit on all internal roads and highways of the emirate remain unchanged,” the police said, in reply to an image of a signboard with a lower speed on the arterial road.

The road sign that went viral on social media was old, according to Col Ahmed Al Sam Al Naqbi, director of the traffic and patrols department, RAK Police. “This old sign was at the time of building the road and is not there anymore.”

The speed remains unchanged on the major road of the emirate, he affirmed. “The speed limit is 100km per hour on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem road.

“However, the radar flash has been set at 121km per hour, considering the 20km per hour speed buffer over speed limits.”

The department only introduces changes to speed limits on the roads of the emirate based on extensive studies, he pointed out. “Road signs are also installed in a clear way to alert the drivers about the speed limit.”

The radars on the roads and highways of the emirate are all preceded with road signs that clearly show the speed limit, Col Al Sam underlined. “Should any driver get caught by any radars on roads without speed limits, they shall have this fine immediately cancelled when referring it to the traffic department.”

All drivers need to observe speed to avoid hefty fines and black points, he advised.

“All customers are advised to contact the traffic department for inquiries, remarks, and complaints and never be misled with rumours.”
