Light rain brings respite from heat

- Staff Reporter

DUBAI — Though parts of the UAE saw light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday morning, the chances of it continuing over the next couple of days are unlikely. However, a spokesperson from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said wet conditions are expected today morning, and some cloud seeding practices may be conducted.

“We cannot do cloud seeding without rain so we take the opportunity when we experience weather like this. From midnight on Wednesday to early morning on Thursday, we are expecting some good rainfall, so depending on the amount, we may do cloud seeding,” he told Khaleej Times.

Though several parts of the country have experienced an increase in humidity over the past few days, he confirmed that from Thursday to Saturday “humidity levels will be normal, not high like we have been experiencing lately”.

Over the next couple of day, the weather conditions across the country will remain partly cloudy and hazy at times. However, increased dust and sand will continue to blow over exposed areas.

“Temperatures are expected to drop slightly, by one to two degrees

celsius, from Thursday through to Saturday.” Come late Saturday evening through to Sunday morning, residents across the country should expect to see fog settle, especially during the early morning hours on Sunday.

Cloudy days ahead

In its official weather report, the NCM said the weather in the UAE from Wednesday until Sunday will be partly cloudy for the most part and hazy at times during the day. Westerly to northwesterly winds (25-35kmph, reaching up to 50kmph) over the sea will cause blowing dust and sand.

Moderate to rough seas are expected in the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman during this period.

Today, the weather will be hazy and partly cloudy, and cloud amounts will increase over some areas during the daytime, with northwesterly 25-35kmph winds reaching 45kmph at times causing blowing dust and sand and rough seas in both the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Friday will bring fair weather which will become hazy at times during the day and partly cloudy over some areas. Northwesterly 25-35 kmph winds will reach 45 kmph at times causing aggravated dust and sand and rough to moderate seas.

On Saturday, the weather will be generally fair, partly cloudy and hazy at times during the day over some areas.

On Sunday, humid weather is expected during the morning, with the possibility of fog or mist formation. It will also be partly cloudy and hazy at times over some areas, with easterly to northeasterly 1020 kmph winds reaching 30kmph at times. Slight to moderate seas are also expected.
