Fly Emirates, NMC post convincing wins in Sharjah Ramadan Cup

sharjah — Laxman Sreekumar scored a quickfire unbeaten century as Fly Emirates eased past Amigos Cricket Club by 119 runs while New Medical Centre ousted Atlas Foundation by eight wickets in the 30th Sharjah Ramadan Cup 2018 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The tournament is organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council.

Fly Emirates batting first saw a wonderful second-wicket partnershi­p of 227 runs between Laxman Sreekumar and Krishna Chandran that meant they had a brilliant 257 runs in the allotted 20 overs.

Laxman Sreekumar remained unbeaten on 130 from just 60 deliveries supported by 10 boundaries and seven sixes while Krishna Chandran was unlucky to miss out on the big one by just seven runs as he finished at 91 from 48 deliveries peppered with 11 hits to the fence and three over it.

In reply, Amigos Cricket Club could not make an impact as they could muster just 138 for eight in 20 overs with Krishna Chandra claiming three wickets and Laxman Sree Kumar picking up two.

Nishad Chahil was the highest scorer with 35 runs while Pradheesh Nair and Nisar Mangalasse­ry managed 25 each.

In the other match, NMC needing 144 to win, put on a matchwinni­ng opening partnershi­p of 74 runs to ensure they achieved the target without much fuss.

Fayyaz Ahmed was the key performer as he hammered an unbeaten 81 from just 49 balls including seven fours and five sixes while Abdul Babar Ali chipped in with a 31-ball 41.

Earlier batting first, Atlas Foundation posted 143 for 7 in 20 overs thanks to good knocks from Babar Hussain (42) and Muhammad Umar (44).

In the earlier matches, Defenders Cricket Club defeated Allen Cooper India CC by 25 runs and Alubond Tigers eased past Sindh Stars CC (Pakistan) by seven wickets.
