Nursery children pack 300 fun kits for the needy
dubai — In the true charitable spirit of Ramadan, young children of British Orchard Nursery along with all its branches in the UAE, have packed 300 custom-made packages for needy children around the world.
Contributing to the ‘For You’ — Lakum initiative of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and with the idea of putting smiles on the faces of children in need, the exercise aimed to inculcate a sense of social responsibility, compassion and care in nursery children.
The ‘Lakum’ Box initiative aims to teach school children the value of sharing and sensitising them towards others’ needs and wants. As part of ‘Giving Initiatives’ in the UAE, the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) launched the humanitarian initiative Lakum in 2016, designed to encourage social values and goodwill to all. This initiative includes providing educational and fun gifts to children in need throughout the world.
The ‘Lakum’ boxes were even personalised by the children as they contributed their favourite toys in addition to educational supplies, including pens, pencils, stationary items, books, colouring books, paint brushes etc alongside hygiene items such as toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, hairclips, soap bars etc.
Dr Vandana Gandhi, CEO and founder of the nursery chain, said: “It’s never too early to inculcate empathy in children for those who are less fortunate than them and such values are just as important as imparting academic knowledge. We hope and believe that such activities encourage our little ones to reach out and help others in need and go on to create a brighter, happier tomorrow.
The nursery supports orphanages, old age homes, animal shelters and charitable causes within the UAE.
