sharjah — The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) personnel swung into action and restored power in Al Ezra area within 30 minutes of the outage on Monday morning. The power snapped due to a technical snag in one of the main cables at 8am.

The disconnection forced many schools in the area to postpone exams and send the students back home early, to prevent them from sitting in the heat inside classrooms.

Osman Sorour Almas, director of the Control Centre at Sewa, said the authority is exerting efforts to deal with any malfunctions in a short time. A technical team was rushed to the site of interruption to find out its causes and repair it, he added.

Sewa is working to select the best technical competencies and train them to work in maintenance and repair departments so that disruptions are handled efficiently, the director added. “Sewa is conducting maintenance services to make the operation

of the network reach the highest level of performance technically and economically,” he underlined.

The authority is working on developing technical operations, monitoring the electrical network and providing continuous maintenance requirements to reduce and prevent faults.

It is also working on implementing the maintenance programmes, developing and improving the electrical network and dealing with emergency cases, Almas explained.

He urged residents to cooperate in rationalising electricity consumption and not to waste it and try to conserve the vital limited resource, as the cost of electricity production is very high.
