Man sends threatenin­g messages to ex-boss

dubai — A sales executive has been charged at a Dubai court after he allegedly made criminal threats against an Uzbek businesswo­man for whom he used to work.

According to public prosecutio­n records, the 30-year-old Indian man threatened the complainan­t — his former boss — that he would destroy her life and circulate inappropri­ate messages of her.

He also allegedly posted her picture on Facebook with defamatory captions, alleging that she dismissed him after he claimed his ‘financial dues’.

The case that was registered at Al Barsha police station unfolded before May 4, 2017.

The businesswo­man, 34, said the defendant worked for her hospitalit­y and import firm for about eight months prior to the incident. “I had to dismiss him when he started not showing commitment to work. He would not drop the workers at the work locations and often did not show up at work. He ignored my notice mail regarding his performanc­e and more often absconded from work.”

She terminated his contract on January 21, 2017, which he took bitterly. “He began sending mails to my work address with abusive content. He alleged we had sex and he got inappropri­ate messages from me,” she recounted.

She added she felt embarrasse­d in front of her husband and friends and the staff when he repeatedly posted her picture on his Facebook page with messages that read ‘she took my money and denied me of my financial rights before terminatin­g my employment’.

The businesswo­man told the prosecutor that she did nothing to provoke him to behave as he did.

She pointed out that even during his detention, he was still calling and verbally abusing her. The most recent such incidents were on April 27 and April 29, she claimed.

He admitted to the online insult and libel charges during investigat­ion. Copies of his Facebook posts, that contained abusive and slandering messages targeting her, were translated and used as evidence.

The trial will resume on July 9.
