Bhavans Abu Dhabi in global charity drive
abu dhabi — Private International English School, a part of Bhavans Middle East, launched the eighth edition of its annual charity programme during the holy month of Ramadan. This year the school reached out to labour camps in all seven emirates by providing grocery kits to over 1,000 labourers.
The charity drive included nine centres in the UAE — Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ruwais and Al Ain — covering the seven emirates. The initiative saw student volunteers dedicating their time and effort to enrich the school’s learning environment by contributing to the charity initiative in Year of Zayed 2018.
“We hope to spread the message of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s inspirational and noble values and further reinvigorate the UAE community’s commitment to service and volunteering,” Bhavans Middle East chairman Ramachandran Menon said.
“I appreciate every parent and student, who spares no effort in supporting us no matter when or where,” vice-chairman Mr. Sooraj Ramachandran said in his message.
While speaking to the students, principal Girija Baiju said: “We are happy to bring happiness in the lives of the underprivileged during the holy month of Ramadan.” As we go along in the Year of Zayed, this mission will continue in 60 more centres that span across the world that have been identified to organise similar charity programmes. “I collected from my piggy bank to contribute to this charity programme,” a grade four student said, expressing his happiness.
In keeping with objectives of the Red Crescent and their various contribution to the needy, the school also contributed Dh3,000 to the Red Crescent The school’s supporting staff also received grocery kits. “I am very happy to receive this I will gather with my friends to share the meal,” one of them said “because, I got a hamper containing rice, wheat powder, dhal, oil, sugar and tea powder.”
“We must express our gratitude to these members of the school, whose invaluable work often goes unnoticed,” vice-principal K.T. Nandakumar reminded the students.
