dubai — Parents will no longer have to sign the parent-school contract every year as existing contracts will continue to remain valid till a student studies at the same school.

According to Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the decision to automatically renew contracts, applicable from this academic year, will benefit parents and schools by adding to their convenience. The contracts are mandatory for all students in Dubai’s private schools and outline important rights and responsibilities of schools and families.

Explaining the latest updates in the contracts, Amal Belhasa, CEO of knowledge and human development policy at KHDA, said: “Signing the contract is now easier than ever as it is just a one-off requirement when a student joins school for the first time in Dubai. Hereafter, a new contract will only be issued and signed if a student moves to a new school.”

Parents will also receive updates in the original contract before the contract automatically gets renewed on the resumption of classes at the beginning of the academic year.

“We have seen a significant decrease in disputes between parents and schools as the contracts provide an important reference for dispute resolution.”

Parents can also sign the contract digitally without the need to visit their child’s school unless a student is enrolling in a school for the first time.
