PML-N to seek public sympathy: Zardari

islamabad — Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) would try to take political advantage and gain public sympathy in the wake of the court verdict against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz.

They still had the option of filing appeals to get relief from higher courts, Zardari said while talking to a TV channel.

The former president claimed that Nawaz Sharif would not return to the country and might seek asylum in England. He said it was a reality that Nawaz Sharif had a vote bank that would be shifted to Maryam and not to Shahbaz Sharif.

When asked whether he had any contacts with PML-N, he said he did not meet Nawaz Sharif after 2015. Replying to a question,

Zardari said the PPP had supported the Sharif government during the sit-in of Imran Khan in 2014 for the sake of democracy.

Replying to a question, he said as no political party was willing to go with the PTI it could not secure a two-thirds majority in the upcoming elections.

Zardari said PTI chief Imran Khan had already closed all doors of cooperatio­n by announcing that he would not forge a coalition with the PPP to form the government.
