Imran sees dawn of a new nation after Sharif verdict

-

swat — Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chairmen Imran Khan has welcomed the verdict of an accountability court, sentencing former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to 10year imprisonment in the Avenfield corruption reference.

Addressing a public gathering at Kabal in Swat district on Friday, Imran asked the nation to offer prayers as gratification over the verdict.

“The judicial system of Pakistan has today penalised a powerful personality and it is a very welcome decision,” Imran Khan said.

He said in Pakistan powerful people were considered beyond the reach of courts and only the poor were held accountable for their wrongdoings.

The verdict in the Avenfield reference has proved that now no one would be spared from accountability,

and the corrupt elements would have to face detention and imprisonment, besides recovery of the looted money, he said.

This is the beginning of a new Pakistan wherein thieves and corrupts will be barred from entering parliament, Imran said while expressing jubilation over the verdict.

He accused the Sharif brothers of dirty politics and said they introduced horse trading in the 1990s by keeping elected members at the rest houses at tourist resorts to buy their loyalty.

The PTI chief believed that corruption had badly damaged Pakistan during the last four decades and country lagged behind in social and health sectors.

Imran said when he raised the issue of Nawaz Sharif’s property in London no one gave any consideration. He said he raised the issue in parliament for referring it to the Election Commission, but to no avail. However, the Supreme Court initiated proceedings into the Panama scandal after the PTI threatened to lock down the country if no action was taken. —
