dubai — The Ministry of Education (MoE) has issued a directive, banning the enrolment of Emirati students in 47 private schools across the UAE for the academic year 2018-19.

The directive is in response to the performance of the said schools in the academic evaluation process conducted by the ministry. According to the ministry, these schools scored poor to very poor ratings.

The ministry has informed parents and guardians of Emirati students to stop registering their children in these schools. It urged parents to look at alternative options to enrol their children.

Speaking to a radio programme of the Sharjah Media, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, said: “We had ordered the transfer of supervision of private education schools in Sharjah from the Ministry of Education to the Sharjah government five months ago, and we will be taking the necessary measures to get this order implemented.” Board of experts in Sharjah

Dr Sheikh Sultan reassured owners of private schools and parents whose children are studying there, saying they would be taken care of.

He announced the formation of a special board of international education experts for evaluating and enhancing education at all private schools in the emirate.

“This board is working under my own guidance in order to promote education. The board will be taking care of everything happening in the classroom in terms of evaluating the teacher and the teaching methodology,” Dr Sheikh Sultan added.
