dubai — A car crashed into the side of Dubai Tram’s coach resulting in temporary suspension of operations between Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah stations on Wednesday morning.

No injuries have been reported. The mishap happened close to the Mina Seyahi tram station. Services, however, were immediately restored after the vehicle was removed from the tramway. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed in a series of tweets after the incident, which reportedly occurred at 9am.

“Dubai Tram service is back to normal, after removing the vehicle from the tramway,” the RTA

tweeted. The RTA also thanked the tram users “for their cooperation with staff on-board the tram carriages and others at stations and called upon motorists to comply with the traffic guidelines and the fixed speed limits, urging them to take extra caution when approaching tram junctions.”

The RTA also deployed public buses to commute tram riders between the stations impacted by the service disruption. The Dubai Tram was opened in 2014 and transports around five million riders annually around the areas of Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai Media City, Dubai Knowledge Park, Jumeirah Beach Residence and Jumeirah Lake Towers.

Similar incidents have been reported in December 2014, September 2015 and September 2017. Violating traffic rules around Dubai Tram causes heavy fines and penalties.

Driving through red light without causing an accident will carry a fine of Dh5,000; causing an accident leading to physical injury will result in Dh15,000 fine and if the accident caused a death, the guilty party will have to pay Dh30,000 penalty.
