Godolphin notch five winners
dubai — Godolphin’s Mary Tudor may have finished a valiant third on her Group 1 debut in the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh on Saturday but the Dubai-based racing operation had a string of victories at racecourses across Australia and Great Britain.
Mary Tudor, the three-year-old filly from Dawn Approach held well on a step up in trip in the onemile-and-four-furlong contest, coming in 1 1/2 lengths behind Epsom Oaks winner Forever Together, trained by Aidan O’Brien and the ride of Donnacha O’Brien. Sea Of Class, trained by William Haggas and ridden by James Doyle won the race.
Meanwhile, Godolphin had five victories, three in Australia and two in Great Britain, on the day.
Major Partnership, saddled by Emirati trainer Saeed bin Suroor, strode to victory in the Smarkets Novice Stakes in Newmarket. The three-year-old colt from Iffraaj, under Pat Cosgrave, won the seven-furlong contest by 1 3/4 lengths over Brexit Time.
It was Major Partnership’s maiden victory in only his second start. He had finished second on his debut in the 32Red Casino Novice Stakes (Div I) at Kempton in April this year.
Meanwhile, stablemate Emotionless notched his third victory in 10 starts by winning the bet365 Stakes (Listed Race) in Newbury.
The charge of Charlie Appleby and the ride of William Buick, the five-year-old from the illustrious Shamardal, won by two lengths over Desert Encounter. Emotionless has been a regular at the Meydan Racecourse during the Dubai World Cup Carnival over his 10 runs. Meanwhile, Emirates Flyer, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, finished sixth in the same race.
Eleswhere, Godolphin returned with three victories from trainer James Cummings, in Randwick, Australia.
Plague Stone, the two-yearold colt from Lonhro, landed his maiden win in five starts by winning the Rosebud Prelude (Handicap). Trained by Cummings and ridden by Hugh Bowman, Plague Stone won by half length over Witherspoon.
Gaulois, ridden by Jason Collett, won the TAB Rewards Handicap, while Cummings and Bownman partnered again to win the Brother Dan’s 80th Birthday Sprint, with Bandipur.
