ras al khaimah — A six-yearold Pakistani girl has drowned in the swimming pool of a resort in Ras Al Khaimah.

Major Abdullah Ali Anun Al Nuaimi, acting chief of the city police station, said initial investigations showed that the girl’s mother went swimming with her daughter (the victim) and son. “The mother was busy taking care of her little son, while the girl drowned.”

The people present at the pool tried to rescue her and provide first aid until the national ambulance arrived.

“Unfortunately, she was already dead,” he said. “The body of the victim was shifted to the morgue of the hospital for burial.”

Major Nuaimi urged all parents to keep an eye on their kids while swimming. “Young kids should never be left unattended in a swimming pool.”

Children should also be given access only to the pools that suits them, he said, adding that lifeguards should be present as long as the pool is open. “All hotels and resorts should specify special pools for small children,” said Major Al Nuaimi.

As per the forensic report, the girl was brain-dead after the incident and the medical team in the hospital emergency department could not revive her.
