dubai — If you think Pokemon GO is too complicated or tiring, HMD Global is bringing a simpler augmented reality-powered game for you — with a classic twist.

The maker of Nokia smartphones on Thursday announced the launch of Nokia Snake Real

World, an AR version of the classic game made popular by 1998’s Nokia 5110.

The game is playable on the Facebook mobile app. And while it is indeed a Nokia title, the good news is that it can be played on any smartphone, Android or iOS.

So, basically, you can play Snake anywhere you want.

“The world-famous game snaked its way back into people’s hearts at the Mobile World Congress in 2017, when we announced Snake for Facebook Messenger,” Pekka Rantala, chief marketing officer and executive vice-president of HMD Global, said in a statement.

“It was designed for a new social generation; fans could invite friends to play and share scores making it even more playable than first time round. This was the first time in

Snake’s history that it went onto a universal channel, rather than a device preload, and it gained 121 million players around the world.”

Now, with the game on Facebook, “we launch an even more immersive experience to fans by allowing them to be the snake itself and eat the apples with filters available on the Facebook camera”.

Khaleej Times was one of the first to test the new Snake game in the UAE. Firing it up is simple: in the camera tab of the Facebook mobile app, click the snake mask and your ready to ssstart, er, start.

The game is reminiscent of the days of simpler gaming, as there are only two controls — left and right — to be used to control the virtual apple-munching snake. As with the original game, the snake grows longer as it eats more. And good luck trying to keep up with it especially indoors with lots of objects.

As an added bonus, an all-new Snake Mask, using the front-facing camera, allows players to turn themselves into the iconic Snake character, reacting to the motion of the player’s face.
