Eid in advance for 100 special kids
dubai — About 100 people of determination from different religions, age groups and backgrounds, along with their families, enjoyed pre-Eid Al Adha celebrations organised by the Dar Al Ber Society (Dabs) at their head office on Wednesday afternoon.
As spreading happiness was the main aim of the event, the Dar Al Ber Society officials generously gifted prizes to the determined ones, which included branded bags, toys, garments, shoes and belts.
Engaging activities from best dressed individual to drawing competition as well as a grand lucky draw were organised for the determined ones, including kids from the age of 4 years to adults in their 30s.
The exclusive lucky draw saw nine determined ones win furniture and household items as well as toys, which lighted up the mood of the children as well as their families.
Hisham Al Zahrani, deputy director, social sector, Dabs, said: “We at the social sector of the Dar Al Ber Society feel that it is our responsibility to do something for the determined ones. So in the spirit of approaching Eid Al Adha, we considered it as the perfect time to spread happiness among them and their families.”
Savita, a Pakistani mother who was present with her seven-year-old autistic child Ishaan, said: “This was one such event where we parents got a chance to feel proud of our kids and not ashamed of them due to their disability. No one was judging us here about how our kid was behaving, which is usually the case in other gatherings. This is what I would call a perfect celebration for the upcoming Eid and thanks to the Dar Al Ber Society that we were able to interact with so many determined ones, and were made to feel special, and has definitely added happiness to our life.”
Another parent Seema, who had come with her 23-year-old epileptic son Kausar, said: “This event introduced us to the beautiful festival of Eid Al Adha that is approaching and we interacted with so many parents who are going through the same issues we have. Such events actually explain the festival to non-Muslims like us and help us feel as part of the society and culture of this beautiful country.”
The event was hosted by Juhi Yasmeen Khan, CSR and charity initiatives expert at the Dabs, who said: “I always feel happy and excited to serve the determined ones and such events give us an opportunity to make these individuals feel important and part of the mainstream society.”
The games and gift distribution ceremony was followed by a special lunch arranged for the determined ones and their families. Free medical checkups and complimentary henna was also organised for the guests.
An excited determined one, Nilofer, who drew a mosque showing Eid Al Adha celebrations, said: “It feels that Eid has already started for all of us here. I am so happy to be showered by so many gifts.”
