Samsung unpacks a punch with Note9
The curtains have finally been pulled back on the Samsung Galaxy Note9, and this time around, the tech giant has put the battery back in the spotlight.
Packing 21 per cent more battery life than its predecessor, more is definitely more with this phone.
Now here’s where this device goes from beast to monster.
Not only is it the Note series’ biggest phone to date with a 6.4inch screen, but it confirmed the long-running rumours: it’s Samsung’s first with 512GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, and, combined with up to 512GB of expandable storage via a microSD card, it’s ready to pack in 1TB of data.
The base model, meanwhile, has 128GB of internal storage, double what the Note8’s starting variant offered, but with the same 6GB of RAM.
Samsung also wants to prove that with the Note9, the pen is mightier than the sword — the S Pen, that is. The Note’s signature stylus has been given a Bluetooth update, and along with it some cool new features. With the addition of a super capacitor, it can now run for
30 minutes when charged for just 40 seconds by sliding it back into the phone. It can click selfies too and run you through PowerPoint presentations using the updated, dockless DeX feature, which would be a bonus for the officebased user.
This latest offering may reprise many of the major features and design elements of the Note8, Samsung’s redemption product last year following the disaster that befell the Note7, which was critically-acclaimed and packed a nice little punch. So, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Though we may only been seeing some peripheral changes with this phone, bigger is what the Note9 is all about; the battery, bigger; the screen, bigger; and the storage, you guessed it, bigger.
The camera has become even more intelligent too; with 20 scene optimisers built in, meaning better-quality snaps.
While the Note9 addresses the few gaps that the Note8 didn’t quite perfect; those expecting more in terms of design may be on the fence. All the drama for this next in the Note series is happening on the inside and that may be hard for some to swallow. With two different memory specifications on offer, we can’t argue that Samsung has remained true to its promise about unpacking its “most powerful phone yet”.
