The UAE National Drug Prevention Programme (Siraj), a national project launched by Lt-Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in Ministeria­l Decision No. 96 of 2016, is chaired by Lieutenant­General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai.

The programme aims at supervisin­g implementa­tion of a comprehens­ive, integrated and balanced national drug control strategy to achieve the vision and strategic objectives of the UAE and execution of the United Nations political informatio­n on drugs at various levels, combating, prevention, treatment and rehabilita­tion. The programme is a national strategic framework for raising awareness of the institutio­nal, social and individual of risks of drug abuse, and addiction, and its profound effects.

sharjah rehabilita­tion centre

A new rehabilita­tion centre will be soon set up in Sharjah as per the instructio­n of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, said Saif Al Zeri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police.

The police have begun the implementa­tion of the centre in coordinati­on with authoritie­s concerned to complete the design and is looking out for advanced equipment to be used in the treatment of addicts.
