Zulekha Hospital unveils 24-hour pediatric emergency department

dubai — Zulekha Hospital has launched its new 24-hour Pediatric Emergency Department in its Sharjah hospital to treat pediatric medical emergencie­s.

The Paediatric Emergency Department provides specialise­d care for childbirth and newborns, and includes a 19-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a three-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiology and pediatric physiother­apy.

“We launched the Paediatric Emergency Department to ease babies with critical cases. With special areas within the unit dedicated to paediatric­s, fast track cases, resuscitat­ion and general treatment, our team offers timely medical attention to emergency cases. We have dedicated paediatric doctors on duty in the Emergency Department on a round-the-clock service basis to ensure that patients have the best possible care available to them,” said Zanubia Shams, co-chairperso­n of Zulekha Healthcare Group.

The pediatric emergency services include, but are not limited to, rapid sequence intubation, airway management and mechanical ventilatio­n, defibrilla­tion, pediatric advanced life support, neonatal resuscitat­ion, neonatolog­y and pediatric services, haemodynam­ic monitoring, intravenou­s therapy, laboratory and radiology diagnostic­s and minor procedures.

The newly opened department has adopted the Triage System in which patients are assessed according to the urgency of their case which ensures that those in a serious condition receive priority care.
