Al Balooshi needs top 5 finish to win world title

dubai — UAE Motocross champion Mohammed Al Balooshi, is set to participat­e in the final round of the 2018 FIM Baja World Cup, running this weekend in the ancient city of Veszprem, one of the oldest urban areas of Hungary, according to a press release.

The picturesqu­e town is surrounded by winding dirt tracks and forests which will be home to the last round of the World Cup.

Balooshi arrives to the meeting leading the world standings, with a 3-point lead over French rider Michael Metge, and knows scoring a good result in the Hungarian Baja won’t be easy considerin­g the many prestigiou­s names on this already legendry race’s entry list.

With a strong alignment including also top Hungarian riders, and previous year’s winners, the Emirati champion needs to finish in top 5 to secure the first FIM World Title for the UAE.

Ahead of the start of the 15th Anniversar­y edition of the Hungarian Baja, Balooshi opened up about what this experience represents in his career: “This will be a weekend of first times, this is my first time racing in Hungary, it’s my first time to reach the last round of the Baja World Championsh­ip leading the ranking, and it’s the first time my country reaches this instance in this series as well.

“So this new challenge, is a total thrill for me, of course a bit scary if you want, but I’m really looking forward to battle and give my very best. It’s a very special time of my life and of my carrier! I feel fit and strong on the bike, have been working very hard for the last three seasons, even despite some annoying injuries I had.”
