6,500 workers showered with Eid goodies
dubai — Over 6,500 workers from three labour accommodations were showered with Eid gifts by the Eidiya caravan of the Dar Al Ber Society. Apart from the gifts, the society also distributed cakes and ice-creams to them.
The Eidiya caravan visited three different places — Nuzul labour accommodation, Philippines Overseas Labour Office (Polo) in Al Qusais and Berkley’s Women Labour Camp at Al Quoz — over a period of three days and gave out the special gifts which included branded shoes, garments, bags, belts, toys as well as consumer items to the excited labourers and needy families living in the vicinity.
The first stop of the caravan was Nuzul labour accommodation in Jebel Ali where over 6,000 male labourers received a number of consumer products, including tea, moisturiser, face and body cream. They were also treated to ice cream, cakes and other sweets.
Gary Pinto, a visibly elated worker from the Nuzul labour accommodation, said: “Thanks for making us feel special and including us in the Eid festivities. We are very grateful to Dar Al Ber Society for giving us so many gifts. Now, we feel like we really celebrated Eid.”
Polo in Al Qusais was the caravan’s second destination where as many as 290 women received gifts, including branded garments, shoes, bags, and belts. They also enjoyed sweet goodies. The highlight of the evening was a branded wedding dress gifted to a woman, Rochelle, who is set to get married in the Philippines and was flying to her country the next day.
The third Eid gift distribution was carried out at Berkley’s Women Labour Camp in Al Quoz. Around 300 women present there lapped up gifts and thanked the society for their kind gesture.
Talking about the need to host such an event for the workers, Dr Hisham Al Zahrani, deputy director, social sector, Dar Al Ber Society, said: “Eid is the time to give and share happiness. These sisters and brothers are away from their families, and they deserve all the happiness. We, at Dar Al Ber Society, feel that it is our duty to make them feel happy.”
Distributing gifts among the blue-collar community with the Ediya caravan was Juhi Yasmeen Khan, CSR & charity initiatives expert at Dar Al Ber Society, who said: “All the people were very excited to receive the gifts and there was a wave of joy among them. I felt emotional seeing them so excited and happy after receiving the Eid gifts. I feel privileged that God has given me this opportunity to serve them.”
About the participation of the general public to help the needy, Dr Hisham said: “If anyone would like to contribute in our initiatives, kindly contact us at:
