UAE-based businessman continues his support
abu dhabi — Non-resident Indians continue to offer support to rebuild a flood-ravaged Kerala.
Abu Dhabi-based businessman Dr BR Shetty on Wednesday evening met Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram and handed over a cheque for Rs40 million. Apart from this contribution to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund, Shetty has earlier donated Rs95 million to the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, thereby taking the overall amount to Rs135 million (Dh7.1 million).
The fresh support from the NRI businessman has come a day after Kerala chief minister’s announcement of the UAE aid of $100 million and Indian government’s reluctance to accept foreign assistance.
NMC Healthcare CEO and executive director Prasanth Manghat, Finablr group CEO and executive director Promoth Manghat and Unimoni India CEO and managing director Amit Saxena were also present at the occasion.
Shetty lauded the great resilience shown by Keralites despite devastating floods wreaking havoc on their lives.
“The rehabilitation of the nearly million displaced is a critical priority and we must all join hands to support this noble cause. The losses suffered by the people are unimaginable and I will be glad if my humble contributions can make a positive difference in rebuilding their lives,” he said and added. “We will continue to extend our full-fledged support to government initiatives that will help in rebuilding God’s Own Country.”
Promoth was confident Kerala will recover soon from the disaster.
“It is our responsibility to do all within our power to aid the people of Kerala. Our teams are in full action, across our global network, to extend every support possible for the millions affected,” he said.
