Legends from Asia’s Big 3 add glamour to UAE T20x
dubai — UAE T20x on Wednesday provided its fans with a sneak peek of the top coaches from the subcontinent that have registered to be a part of the inaugural tournament when it kicks off this December. The pool, which is nearly 100 strong, consists of career coaches and ex-cricket legends from 11 different countries.
Fans of the Indian game will be no stranger to the talents of VVS Laxman, Robin Singh, Venkatesh Prasad, AR Srikkant and Sanjay Bangar — all of whom have signed up to the UAE T20x coaching roster.
Their names sit alongside those of Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar, Saqlain Mushtaq, Inzamam-ul Haq, Saeed Ajmal, Misbah-ul Haq and Waqar Younis — all revered across the subcontinent.
In addition, the former Sri Lankan ODI captain Chaminda Vaas has put himself forward for selection as a bowling coach when the UAE T20x auction and draft takes place later this year.
Zayed Abbas, Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Board Member and Official Spokesperson said: “The coaching roster we are currently building boasts some of the sport’s best former players and career coaches and is another clear demonstration of our commitment to not only showcase emerging talent, but to provide them with a high standard of competition and world class coaching that will help develop their individual game.”
The progressive team structure which has been created by UAE T20x will ensure four emerging and junior players are picked in each team along with three ICC Associate Member players and three national team players from the UAE. Not only will they benefit from great coaches, but from legendary team mates, as every squad will feature five international star players and an international icon.
The reveal of the subcontinent coaching roster comes a week after AB de Villiers was announced as the league’s global ambassador and ahead of the highly anticipated announcement of the five icon players who have signed up to play in UAE T20x.
