dubai — The Ministry of Infrastructure Development will complete the second phase of the Kalba ring road, worth Dh60 million, next year.

The second phase of the road, linking the Sheikh Khalifa Road in Fujairah with Khatam Melaha border centre, is 7km long, according to Ahmed Al Hammadi, director of roads department at the ministry.

“The road consists of two lanes in each direction with a middle road island for future expansion.”

The second phase of the project includes the installation of a traffic light, rainwater drainage system, a lighting network, and lampposts on both sides, he added.

“This is apart from the installation of metal barriers to better separate the two sides.”

“The first phase (5.5km) and second phase (7km) of the road also links the Khatam Melaha centre at the borders of Oman with the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road in Fujairah.” The 12.5km long road will ease traffic in the Kalba city, said Al Hammadi. “Heavy trucks will be diverted to the new road upon completion, which will enhance traffic flow.”

The road will give a push to the economic, commercial and tourist growth of the city and entire eastern region, he underlined. “It will also facilitate the movement of residents of the Mohammed bin Zayed residential city and neighboring areas.”

The road will also reinforce the geographical link with Oman by facilitating traffic movement through the Khatam Melaha border that links the UAE with Oman, he said.

“The new road will be an added value to the Khatam Melaha centre which is one of the largest land check points in the country.”
