Study materials distribute­d to 900 needy kids

abu dhabi — The Ministry of Community Developmen­t, in cooperatio­n with the Emirates Red Crescent, distribute­d school bags and stationery to 900 orphans and children from poor families ahead of the new school year.

The items distribute­d under the ‘school bag initiative’ included notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, colours, geometry sets and other stationery materials.

The initiative is in line with the 2030 sustainabl­e developmen­t agenda that aims to provide a range of social assistance programmes to the needy and lowincome families in the UAE who are unable to provide everything for their children.

Saeed Al Khattari, general supervisor of the social developmen­t centres at the Ministry of Community Developmen­t, said: “The ministry is keen on providing support to orphans and families of low-income citizens through the School Bag Initiative to save them from the burden of buying study materials for children at the beginning of the school academic year.”

“We have coordinate­d with the Emirates Red Crescent to distribute study materials and stationery to hundreds of children in various emirates.”

several initiative­s to children, including the ‘Month of Reading’ which is observed across the UAE in March every year.

Also, the ‘Learning My Rights’ event that coincides with Emirati Children’s Day on March 15 is hosted at community developmen­t centres across the UAE.
