Inmates have already registered to continue their studies this academic year

ras al khaimah — Inmates at the punitive and correctional institution in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) are allowed to complete their studies while serving their jail terms, according to a top official.

Aspirant inmates were also urged to register in the new academic year 2018/2019 and complete their studies.

Brigadier Yaqoob Yusuf Abu Laila, director of the institution, said they turned the library into a classroom to ensure a proper education environment for expectant student inmates at all grades.

“We opened the door for registration in collaboration with the Ras Al Khaimah Education Zone.”

Five inmates have already registered in different stages and are completing their studies, he added. The institution has made it possible for any inmate to continue their school or university study, he added.

“Books, curricula and teachers required for the inmates are also provided in coordination with the RAK Education Zone.”

Brig Abu Laila added that successful student-inmates would get an opportunity in labour market after completing their imprisonment.

During midterm and final examinations, the RAK Education Zone will send staff inspectors along with examination papers and other tools for each and every student as per their needs, he added.

“So far, a big number of inmates have completed their education while serving their jail terms.”
