ras al khaimah — The Ras Al Khaimah Police, in a bid to boost security all over the emirate, has launched an all new advanced surveillance system assisted by artificial intelligence.

The sophisticated system is aimed to enhance safety, security and stability in the emirate, according to Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police. He said the system will be using massive databases that detect and analyse vehicles’ number plates, faces and locations.

“The scheme is part of the smart city project and the RAK Police’s investment in digital security in line with the vision of the Ministry of Interior and latest international developments.” The new system will boost the emirate’s position as a safe city locally and worldwide, he added.

“The emirate of has been named the safest city in the country in 2017 with up to 99.77 per cent of residents feeling safe.”

The new system is expected to curb crimes and road accidents and casualties in a significant way, he underlined. “It will also help reduce the time needed for response to emergency situations.”

Brigadier Jamal Al Tair, director-general of the resources and assistance services, RAK Police, said the project will boost competition, investment and tourism in the emirate.

The surveillance system, operating on high definition smart cameras, is flexible and can be further developed. “It will be connected with all local authorities and departments in the emirate via the central operations room.”

The new system will be linked to the 125,000 surveillance cameras installed across the emirate, Brig Al Tair said.
