ras al khaimah — A technician working at a mobile shop was accused of sexually harassing a woman and violating the privacy of her mobile phone, heard the Ras Al Khaimah criminal court.

According to court records, the case unfolded when the plaintiff approached the shop to have the screen of her cell phone fixed. She gave the suspect the password of her mobile phone, but he opened her pictures without her permission.

The woman lodged a complaint against the defendant at the Maamura police station on July 22, accusing him of intentionally touching different parts of her body when she handed him the cell phone to fix it through the window of her car.

The defence lawyer denied the accusations and told the court that the lawsuit papers included no evidence that his client (suspect) has abused the plaintiff. “He did not know the victim and could never dare to do any of the claimed charges,” said the lawyer.

The defence lawyer said the victim did not shout for help when she was allegedly abused as per the prosecution interrogations.

The defendant denied abusing her or touching her body on purpose as claimed. He said he unintentionally touched her shoulder when handing over her phone and had apologised for the act.

The lawyer said the plaintiff refused to pay the due Dh100 against fixing her mobile, and lodged a complaint against him instead though she was driving a luxury car and her siblings were in her company.

He added that the woman filed the complaint four hours after the alleged abuse. “The prosecution examined two video footages that showed no abuse,” he told the court, which ordered adjournment of the case to September 26 for giving verdict.
