dubai — The new Haval H6 made its UAE debut on Thursday, with automotive experts saying the SUV will deliver a powerful performance at affordable prices.

Manufactured by Great Wall Motors, the Haval is China’s best selling SUV, and the H6 is set to compete with leading brands in this segment, with its high level of safety features and luxury extras.

“The popularity of Chinese vehicles in the UAE can’t be denied, and we know that this will also be true for the Haval H6,” said Buti Al Naboodah, assistant MD at Al Naboodah Commercial, at the launch of the new model.

“This is a whole new revamp of the car,” said Greg Cottrell, GM of the Automotive Division at Swaidan Trading Co, a part of Al Naboodah Group Enterprises. “A lot of people have this opinion of Chinese made products as being of lower quality, but that is not the case with this model. In terms of change in the market, the SUV segment is rapidly growing. More and more, we see manufacturers going into this segment at this point in time.”

Asked if the rising fuel prices were a cause of concern for motorists, he said: “We did keep that in mind, and as a result we have kept this model at a two litre turbocharged engine. This will give them the power of a bigger engine, but with the efficiency and lower emissions that people are looking for right now. Fuel efficiency is a key driver in the market, and you will see that all manufacturers are following that trend.”

Cottrell said: “Haval’s sales in China are huge, and the H6 contributes around 40 per cent of their total sales, and we are looking to bring some of that over here.”
