Investor stands trial for using another’s ID form
I called the Emirates ID applicant and learned that he had given the application form to the defendant to have the transaction processed.”

DUBAI — An investor stood trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance for presenting an Emirates ID registration form that was not his own, to a police officer.
Prosecutors accused the 37-year-old Egyptian investor of impersonating another man when asked for an ID by a police officer.
This was the second time the primary court heard the case. On November 21, 2017, it found the accused guilty of the charge of misusing others’ authentic official document and ordered him to pay Dh2,000 fine. The Court of Appeals dismissed the case in May 2018 as an out of jurisdiction one.
The case dates back to October 16, 2017, and was registered at Al Rafaa police station.
A police corporal said: “I apprehended the accused and asked him to show an ID. He stalled at first but then presented an Emirates ID application form, which had no photo attached. He claimed it was his own even though there was no photo that could prove his claim.”
The officer told the prosecutor that after verifying the personal details on the form in the police data system, he found out they belonged to another man, who looked differently from the defendant. “I called the Emirates ID applicant and I learned from him he had given the application form to the defendant to have the transaction processed.”
The real applicant later went to the police station and identified the accused as the same man he had handed the form. The accused then revealed his real name.
The defendant admitted to the charge during police interrogation and public prosecution investigation. The court is expected to rule again on the case on September 20.
